Hello, lovely ladies!

I want to say a big thank you, for taking the time out of your day for me. I’ll do my best to make it worthwhile!

Today we are going to talk about a topic that is extremely important to me – women in sports. I have been playing basketball since I was a 9-year-old little girl, who just wanted to have fun. Now I am 19 with a dream to become a successful basketball team manager.

I bet 50 dollars, that each and every one of you, has at least once in their lifetime heard one of these sentences said by a guy:
“Oh, you’re a basketball player? Let’s 1v1, I bet I will win.” (My personal favourite)
“You wrestle? Really? That’s not very feminine but let’s go right now, I will go easy on you.”
“Did you say you play football/soccer? Women’s football is so boring, all the teams are so bad, that I would win alone against a whole team.”
“You are a physiotherapist for a men’s hockey team? I bet you have slept with half of them.”

Women working in sports is finally becoming a rising trend and I could not be more happy about it! We have female athletes, team managers, physiotherapists, coaches, photographers, who are finally not being frowned upon by society. Also the fandom is growing at an immense speed!

Yes, there have always been female athletes and women, who worked in sports. Even Women’s Sports Foundation was established in 1974. But still for a long time female athletes were viewed as masculine, dirty, incompetent and sometimes even “too lazy to find a real job”.  Women, who worked for a men’s sports team or a male athlete, were viewed as a threat, because they would be a distraction to the men.

Still there are gaps in salaries between men’s and women’s sports. For example NBA players get 51 percent of league income, while WNBA players get up to 9 percent (MsMagazine). I’m not sure what you think, but in my opinion it is sexist and totally unfair. Thankfully women’s numbers are growing and hopefully one day it will be equal.

Nevertheless women are finally making a name for themselves and earning the respect they deserve. Slowly, but steadily it is a goal, us women are reaching. An analysis was conducted in women’s sports finance and it was found that in just two years 2022-2024 the revenue grew 4.5 times faster than men’s sports. The fandoms are growing and the more time goes by the more viewers women’s sports have (McKinsey&Company).

If you have a dream like mine, about becoming a woman in sports, it doesn’t matter if you want to be an athlete, a coach, a manager or just a loyal fan – how does Nike’s saying go again? – Just Do It. I believe in you and so should you, go make sports better and enjoy it with everything you have. Go make money, go have fun and go make women’s sports something every little girl will be dreaming of.

Also let me know about your thoughts and questions. I will be extremely grateful for it!

Love
Just another lovely lady
